Alright, for those of you out there who are starting to get sick of our one recorded song, and are starting to wish we would just get over it already (you know who you are), well, I guess you have one more thing to bitch about. DUD opened an account at GarageBand Records (www.garageband.com), and uploaded the track, AND entered it into their Instrumental Rock contest. One catch though: GarageBand officially doesn't allow covers, but hopefully the moderators will see this for what it is: a re-interpretation rather than a regurgitation, and let it slide. So cross you fingers.

And, just for posterity, I'll post what we said about the track below.

This is the first song we ever recorded, and it is a completely instrumental cover of Nirvana's legendary "Smells Like Teen Spirit." Rather than simply regurgitate a song that has already been done a million times before, we tried to re-interpret this classic with our own musical touch, much like blues muscians re-record songs by others many times but still make them sound groundbreaking and unique. Jonah and Nick both take solos on this one, but Collin couldn't make it to the session, so there is no bass on this recording.

Hey DUD fans and past girlfriends of Connor—

I'm sure you've all seen our completely instrumental cover of Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" above, and we really hope you guys enjoy it. In order to give credit where credit is due, we'd just like to thank a few people and then clarify exactly who is playing what on the recording. First off, we'd like to thank the Henry family (Connor's parents) for allowing us to crash at their house, eat their food, and make some noise in their shop. We'd like to especially thank Richard Henry for being so awesome and enthusiastic about getting our music where it needed to be through all sorts of computer patches, file conversions, and other frustrating things we don't understand. Thanks man!
Now, to clarify who is playing what—The way the lead guitar work was laid out allowed each guitar player to play two consecutive solos: the first one just dealing with the song's vocal melody and the second being entirely improvised. Jonah started out, playing the first two solos, and then Nick stepped in and played his two, adding a little bit of wah in the process. Jonah then closed out the number with another solo. Of course Connor played drums (and is responsible for that sweet-ass drum solo in the middle!), but unfortunately Collin could not make it to the session, and so is not featured in this track.

Music Up!!

As I'm sure you can see already, we posted our Myspace Jukebox above (ripped straight from Myspace's HTML, please don't sue, Tom), so you guys can access our music straight from this page. The thing is, since the HTML was copied as static information, the data will not change as Myspace's does, so plays on this Jukebox will not be counted, and the "Total Plays" display will not change to accommodate the one on Myspace. Anyway, as you guys can see, the song is an instrumental cover of Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit, but does not feature any bass as Collin was unable to make it to the recording session (living in rural PA, getting a ride to band practice is always an issue). As soon as Myspace repairs its blog feature (damn Myspace, something's always broken), we'll reproduce our blog entry about this track that's posted there. This is DUD's new web page, where you can check out music, pics, and band updates as we add them. We've added a slide show for you to check out below, which is compiled from some photographs taken at our last gig at the Shop at Connor's New Year's Party (unfortunately Jonah wasn't there and isn't in the photos.)
